Lunar New Year 2021 – The Year of the Ox (Cow)


Chinese New Year 2021 is the Year of the Ox! It starts on February 12, 2021, and will last until  January 31, 2022. The next Year of the Ox will be in 2033. 

Why is it Year of the Metal Ox?


The Lunar New Year 2021 animal is the ox. Aside from the animal sign in the Chinese Zodiac, there is also a cycle of five important elements – wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. 

The cycle falls in the metal for the year 2021.

How to Draw a Cow (Ox)


What’s a fun way to welcome the year of the metal ox? Draw them!

Ready. Set. Draw!

Materials

  • 1 White sheet of paper
  • Pencil
  • Colored Pencil
  • Pen
  • Eraser

Instructions

Step 1. Draw the head and the body.


Draw a big rectangle for the body and a small circle for the head.

For the snout, draw a smaller circle, then connect the three shapes using straight lines.

Step 2. Add details for the head.


Draw ovals for the ears, and two small circles for the eyes. Add dots for the eyeballs and the nostrils.

Draw a small curve for the mouth, then erase the connecting line on the nose.

Step 3. Draw the legs.


Draw two rectangles each for the front and hind legs.

Step 4. Add the tail.


Draw the tail using two narrow curve lines and a small oval at the end.

Step 5. Make the body rounder.


Soften the edges of the body to make it rounder.

Step 6. Draw spots all over the body.

Mooooo!!! Here comes the cow! 

Draw some more and make a family of cows. 

Tips for art-mazing success

  • Color your cows! Switch out the colours for browns, blacks and reds, and they would make fabulous Year of the Ox too!
  • Add colorful backgrounds to your drawings.

Here are the easy-peasy steps:

Step 1. Print the Spring template.
Step 2. Cut-out the square template.
Step 3. Fold the dotted lines.
Step 4. Cut the shaded area.
Step 5. Unfold the paper to reveal the surprise!

TIP: Create many spring cutouts and decorate your home!
