How to Draw a Pond, Dog, and Frog

Do your kids enjoy the outdoors and being with nature?

In 2020, most children spent less time outdoors because of the lockdowns. They became less physically active, and most of their time was spent in front of the screen. With schools being reopened and going outdoors is allowed, it's time to put them back to creative outdoor play and encourage them to play imaginatively.

Don't forget to bring your pencil and sketchbook and sketch some of the beautiful sceneries of the great outdoors!

Here's a cool art inspiration that we taught our kids at the Creativity School – draw a pond, a dog, and a frog!

Let's start!

Materials

1 White sheet of paper
Pencil
Colored Pencil
Pen
Eraser

Instructions

Step 1. Look at the list of sight words.

For this activity, we'll draw the pond, dog, and frog.

Step 2. Draw these basic shapes: a circle, a square, a triangle, a rectangle, a straight line, and a curved line.

Step 3. Draw the sight words.

a. Let’s draw a pond!

Draw a big oval for the pond. Draw continuous curved lines inside for the waves.
We’re going to add a duck inside our pond.
Add lily pads around the pond.
Add some plant elements around the pond. Draw a square for the plant bush, then add small curved lines and small ovals for the leaf textures.
Draw another plant element using spiky narrow triangles.
Add details and re-shape your pond to make it bigger.

b. Let’s draw a golden retriever!

We’ll draw a golden retriever that is facing in front of us. Start with a rectangle for the body and a circle for the head.
To draw the two front legs, use two narrow rectangles on top of each other, then a circle for the paw. To draw the two hind legs, connect two rectangles to form an inverted “V”, then use a circle for the paw.
Let’s draw the face. Use small triangles for the eyes. Draw a circle for the muzzle connected to the face with two small straight lines. Draw a filled inverted triangle for the nose and two curved lines for the mouth.
Connect the head to the body using two small straight lines. Draw two inverted triangles for the ears.
Erase the connecting lines.
Draw the fur using zigzag lines all over the body

c. Let’s draw a frog!

Let’s draw a frog that is facing to the right. Draw an oval for the body, then draw a triangle facing to the right for the head.
Form a zigzag using three rectangles, then connect at the left side of the body to draw the legs.
Draw the forelimbs using small narrow rectangles, then draw circles for the eyes.
Erase the connecting lines on the face.
Draw a smaller circle with a dot inside for the eyeball, then a curved line for the mouth.
Add circles and curved lines all around the body for the skin patterns.

Step 4. Make a story from the words and the pictures.

Once you are done with the drawing, make a wonderful story using all the words on our list!

Tips for art-mazing success:

Continue drawing the remaining words in the list.
You can explore drawing other types of animals in the pond the way you want to!
Color your drawings to make them lively.
Add other things to your drawing and make a good story out of it.
